Cropley Shield

The Cropley Shield is awarded annually in recognition of exceptional achievement by a DRCA club (recreational or social) during the past year. Upon his retirement after 23 years of service as DRCA executive secretary, it was the wish of Mr. Jac Cropley that member clubs be so honoured. In November 1968, the first presentation of the Cropley Shield was made to the Deep River Rugger Club.

Factors considered in making the award include enthusiasm and growth of membership, success in competition with similar groups outside Deep River, varied and successful programs of activities, community service, and enjoyment provided for the general public.

As of 2018, a decision was made to expand the Cropley Shield into the community to potentially recognize hardworking individual volunteers who are the nuts, bots, cogs and wheels that make North Renfrew run.  Repeated delays unfortunately have prevented the focus group from developing a list of nominating criteria as of yet.

Congratulations to the Deep River Curling and Squash Club, winners of the 2017 Cropley Shield Award.  Accepting the Shield from DRCA President Steve D'Eon on behalf of the DRCSC are Janice Bunge and Bill Bishop.
